Michika Shimabe
Michika Shimabe is a civil litigator focused in the areas of complex commercial litigation, business, labor/employment, property (land & water) rights and public entity law. In addition to general litigation, Ms. Shimabe has experience assisting Japanese clients on a variety of matters including: trademark, business transactions, employment law, immigration, trust and wills, and personal injury. Ms. Shimabe also externed for the Honorable Erithe A. Smith of the United States Bankruptcy Court (Central District, California) in 2002.
She is admitted to practice in California and the United States District Court- Central District. She is a member of the California State Bar, the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA), the Japanese American Bar Association, and the Orange County Bar Association.
Ms. Shimabe was named a Southern California Rising Star in 2008 and 2009 by the Super Lawyers Magazine. This honor is reserved for the top 2.5% of Southern California lawyers who are under the age of 40 and rated by peers.
Ms. Shimabe has co-authored several articles published by AIJA including: “Do I Really Need a Lawyer? Understanding and Communicating Our Services in a Competitive Environment” (Aug. 2005); “Product Liability: Managing the Risk” (Jan. 2006); and “Civil Liability of Board Members in the United States: Lessons from Enron and WorldCom” (Mar. 2007). Ms. Shimabe was also the panel speaker on “Product Liability: Managing the Risk” for AIJA’s 44th Annual Congress in August 2006.
Ms. Shimabe earned her B.A. from the University of California at Davis, where she received the International Relations Citation for Outstanding Performance and graduated with High Honors. She received her J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 2003. Ms. Shimabe is fluent in Japanese.
