Crash near California high school injures 12, some of them kids

A violent car crash in Fresno, California on March 14 left 12 people injured, eight of them children. The collision occurred when a driver ran a stop sign, smashing into an SUV. Some of the victims suffered severe injuries in the car accident.

Authorities say that the incident occurred near a high school in Fresno. The driver of a Lexus sedan was reportedly traveling more than 70 miles per hour when the car ran a stop sign and smashed into the side of the vehicle. The man thought to have been behind the wheel reportedly has a suspended license and a warrant out for his arrest. The suspected driver was detained. The person determined to have been driving will be charged with felony hit-and-run. All three occupants of the Lexus have denied being the driver.

Police say that the car’s speed was measured by a motorcycle officer who was stationed on a side street. The officer had begun to follow that vehicle, but he had not activated his emergency lights when the accident happened. The officer was about 300 yards away from the collision, watching as the Lexus crashed into the SUV.

Witnesses said that several children were actually thrown from the vehicle. In all, nine people were in the SUV and three were traveling in the Lexus. All of those people suffered some kind of injury. The children were elementary-school age and younger.

Victims may be able to recover compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses and a variety of other claims. A car accident attorney can provide additional information about victims’ legal rights.
