A California car accident that involved a taxi resulted in the death of one man on March 16. According to California Highway Patrol, the cause of the accident was attributed to the driver of the taxi losing control of his vehicle.
The accident occurred at about 1 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 680 near the eastbound Interstate 80 interchange. The taxi, a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria driven by a 52-year-old San Jose man, was headed toward the interchange when its driver reportedly lost control. The car traveled off of the ramp, overturned in the air and fell down onto Central Way.
Firefighters pronounced one of the passengers riding in the backseat, a 52-year-old man who lived in Loyalton, dead shortly after the accident occurred. The taxi’s second passenger, a 51-year-old man from Pollock Pines, was seriously injured in the crash, while the driver suffered minor injuries. Emergency crews took both injured men to NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield. Police stated that all three of the taxi’s occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. Reports did not include information about whether investigators had identified causes or contributing factors that could have led to the crash.
