Three people in California were killed as a result of a car collision that occurred on April 28. The crash happened around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Sylvester Road and Ingromar Grade just outside of Los Banos. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident was caused by a 30-year-old man in a VW Passat speeding down Ingromar Grade. Police say he was driving too fast to complete a curve and drifted into the opposing lane. His vehicle collided with two occupants in an oncoming Saturn Ion.
Local reports say the Saturn Ion was unable to avoid the Passat directly in its path and ultimately broadsided the vehicle’s driver door. The occupants inside the Saturn were a 33-year-old man and his 58-year-old father. The son worked as a math teacher for 12 years at a local high school, while his father was a substitute teacher working for the district. All three men died as a result of the collision.
The three men were all residents of Los Banos. Police are still investigating the accident, but alcohol or drugs were not believed to be contributing factors in the crash. Local reports and colleagues expressed appreciation as both men were widely popular among the students and faculty The two men were headed home from a baseball game when they collided with the speeding Passat.
Surviving relatives of people killed in a car accident caused by the negligence of another driver are often entitled to receive restitution for the economic and noneconomic damages associated with a sudden death. In a wrongful death lawsuit, surviving family members can seek damages that often include funeral and burial costs as well as loss of support and companionship. If the negligent driver was also killed in the accident, his or her estate can be named as the defendant.
