What type of motorcycle is best for new riders?

If you are a new motorcycle rider in California, you may be wondering which bike is best-suited to your needs. In this case there are a quite a few options when it comes to street bikes, each of which caters to different types of riders according to their needs. Choosing a right bike is not only a matter of function, but also of safety when it comes to inexperienced riders.

According to the American Motorcyclist Association, there are a few different categories of motorcycles new riders should consider when first getting started. Standard bikes utilize a basic styling and a better sense of control thanks to their design. Control can be extremely important for new riders, especially if you haven’t built up your confidence level. New riders should be wary when it comes to horsepower, however. Many standard motorcycles can still have quite a bit of kick, which might not be the best option.

Sport bikes are another possibility, and some sport bikes are even designed with new riders in mind. Sport bikes tend to be light weight, which means they are much easier to handle. The amount of power a bike puts out can be a concern with sport bikes, and accordingly new riders should opt for less robust models that emphasize ergonomics.

You may also want to consider a cruiser. Maintaining proper balance can difficult on a motorcycle, and fortunately cruisers offer a lower center of gravity which can help new riders. Cruisers also feature low-rpm engines, which renders coordinating between throttle and clutch much simpler. One downside of some models of cruisers is awkward handling, so be sure to review your options carefully.
