Parents of teen killed by DEA agents in Studio City awarded $3M

The parents of a Los Angeles area teen were awarded $3 million by a U.S. District Court judge in their wrongful death lawsuit involving the shooting of their son. However, the federal judge also determined that the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) officers who killed the teen did not act negligently.

California bicyclist charged with felony vehicular manslaughter

In a historic case, a San Francisco man has pleaded guilty to felony vehicular manslaughter for killing a pedestrian whom he hit with his bicycle. The bicyclist struck a 71-year-old man who was crossing the street in the city's Castro District. The pedestrian died from his injuries several days later. According to San Francisco District Attorney George Gasc?n, this is the first time a bicyclist has been convicted of felony vehicular manslaughter in the United States, but he contends that the charge was warranted due to the facts of the case, and to serve as a warning to other bicyclists.

String of deadly crashes on Highway 14 continues

Highway 14 has been the site of serious and sometimes deadly crashes over the past month. On June 29, there were two more. Separate accidents on that day caused the death of one person, and injuries to several others. They also left traffic backed up for hours in 100-plus degree heat near Agua Dulce, California.

Family files wrongful death suit in Caltrans worker's death

The family of a young Caltrans worker who was killed on the job by a suspected drunk driver in April of last year, has filed a wrongful death suit against Caltrans, the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and the Flatiron Construction Company. The suit contends that adequate precautions were not taken around the construction zone to protect workers' safety.
