Identifying unsafe motorcycle helmets in California

Anyone on a motorcycle in California is required to wear a helmet. According to the law, every driver and passenger must wear a helmet that meets certain federal standards for safety. Further, no one is permitted to sell motorcycle helmets that are not up to standards.

A mistake by a negligent driver leads to fatal motorcycle crash

The excellent weather and beautiful scenery make Orange County a favorite place to ride for California motorcyclists. It does not take more than a couple of seconds for a pleasant ride to turn into a fatal motorcycle crash or a motorcycle accident with catastrophic injuries.

Liability in motorcycle collision depends upon investigation

Liability for the damages suffered by a motorcycle accident victim depends upon there being evidence to prove that the other driver was the negligent party. When the operator dies in a fatal motorcycle crash, the accident investigation conducted by the police takes on new importance because of the silencing of the voice of one of the parties.

What California residents should know about motorcycle crashes

In 2012, there were about 8.5 million motorcycles on the road, and there were 4,986 fatalities resulting from motorcycle crashes. This number went down in 2013 to 4,668, which represents a 6.4 percent decrease from 2012 to 2013. In addition, there were 88,000 injuries to those on a motorcycle, which is a 5.4 percent reduction from 2012.

Off-duty police officer dies in motorcycle accident

On Sept. 6, a Southern California police officer was killed in a traffic accident in Torrance, authorities reported. The police officer, an 18-month veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, was not on duty at the time of the fatal crash. The officer had been driving a personal motorcycle, a Yamaha R6, south on Western Avenue when he collided with a Kia Optima at the 234th Street intersection, according to authorities.

Motorcycle accident on I-80 results in fatality

California roads are some of the busiest in the country. Some have described the roads as a concrete jungle of overpasses and underpasses. With the sheer volume of traffic that is on them every day of the year, it is inevitable that some collisions occur. This can be particularly problematic if the respective weights of the vehicles colliding have a significant disparity, with one being much heavier and one being much lighter. This held true in the case of a recent motorcycle accident.
