California crash kills 4, injures 4

On March 1, a two-car accident that occurred in California caused the deaths of four people and left four others with serious injuries. Authorities stated the crash occurred in Santa Cruz County around 8 p.m. when a sedan crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic, colliding with a pickup truck.

Four people who were in the sedan, including the driver, died in the crash. The driver was identified as a 22-year-old Watsonville resident. The vehicle's passengers were identified as an 18-year-old Watsonville resident and a 19-year-old Soquel resident. The fourth person, a 16-year-old girl, was transported to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, a 56-year-old man, and the remaining three sedan passengers suffered injuries that were described as serious. As of March 2, they remained hospitalized.

During the investigation, authorities allegedly discovered evidence of drinking, though it was not mentioned what that evidence was. Several eyewitnesses also reportedly told authorities that the sedan was seen swerving across the centerline and speeding. Additionally, it appeared that none of the occupants of the sedan were wearing seat belts.

If a person suffers a serious injury that was caused by an impaired or reckless driver, they may seek compensation for the damages they sustained as a direct result of the crash. If the at-fault driver does not survive the car accident, a personal injury attorney may assist the injured person with seeking compensation from the deceased driver's estate. Usually, this includes providing the police reports as evidence that the deceased driver was responsible as well as estimations of the total cost of damages, which may potentially include the cost of medical bills.
